Survey Skill-Building Exercise

Methods

Surveys were conducted on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, between 2:35 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.

at the Metro station on 140th street. Each student (30 total students) was required to obtain one complete survey. For some, this took several tries as the general public may not always be open to surveys, whether it be for religions or personal reasons. It took no one more than four attempts. Criteria for participants were that they must be above the age of 18 and must be an avid subway rider.

Limitations include the time of day in which surveys were conducted. Results would be more accurate at a busy time, such as morning commuters riding the 7 am train and it is more likely they ride the train every day. The survey itself was very inexpensive to conduct. Students paid a maximum of $2.75 for MTA fare in order to enter the subway tracks. Finally, the location of the survey was ideal due to the likelihood that the surveyees were waiting for their train and may have nothing productive to do with the time they will spend waiting.
